Ear Surgery

Facial Plastic Surgeons who Specialize in Ear Surgery at Village Institute of Plastic Surgery

Otoplasty or ear surgery is an option for both sexes as well as kids over the age of five. Otoplasty can treat a range of issues with ear location, how far the ears protrude, or modify their size and form, whether your operation is aesthetic or reconstructive. But ear surgery doesn't deal with hearing problems. However, it is mostly employed to enhance the look of the ears. Dr. Danny Soares is a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon at Village Institute of Plastic Surgery. We strive to deliver the best otoplasty The Villages has to offer. Schedule your private consultation to learn more about if otoplasty is the best option for you.

Am I a Good Candidate for Otoplasty?

Personalized Treatment

In order to better tailor a treatment plan for your aesthetic objectives, Dr. Soares will examine your ears during your appointment and get to know your issues and aspirations. There are numerous forms of Otoplasty, and Dr. Soares will employ the best technique based on your requirements.

Otoplasty Procedure

Your Procedure

At VIP in The Villages Otoplasty is performed at our on-site ambulatory surgical facility. It is often performed under local anesthetic by Dr. Soares. Depending on your operation's complexity, it might take up to three hours. Both local and general anesthetics can be administered for your comfort during treatment. Dr. Soares may create an incision inside the folds of your ears or in the back of your ears, depending on the kind of Otoplasty being done. Next, your ear's tissue is either cut away, folded, molded using sutures, or reshaped with grafted cartilage. Your wounds are stitched shut when the operations are finished.

Quick Solution for Ear Lobes Torn or Split

corrected with a minor surgery

At Village Institute of Plastic Surgery, we are often asked to repair ear lobes that have been torn or split from years of wearing heavy earrings. And many women are unable to wear earrings because their ear lobes have stretched over the years and are at risk of splitting.

This condition can be corrected with a minor surgery performed on the ear lobes, even if one or both ear lobes have been split for a number of years. Dr. Soares is able to surgically repair the split and reshape the ear lobe back to its former shape and size. It’s also important to know that we provide medical ear piercings after your ears have completely healed. And you can again enjoy wearing pierced earrings.

Recovery After Your Surgery

Your Post-operative Experience

After adult otoplasty, Dr. Soares will provide initial instructions and any prescriptions that are deemed necessary. For the first two to three days, you will have bandages around your head to protect and support the new shape of your ears.

You will receive instruction from Dr. Soares about what to avoid until your next follow-up appointment. You may experience some pain or discomfort, but this can be mitigated with medication. Bruising and swelling should be minimal. Any remaining swelling should be completely gone after a few weeks. Dr. Soares will monitor your recovery during your follow-up visits at our office and advise you on activities that you should continue to avoid as you recover. You should be feeling good within a few days and be able to return to social activities as soon as you feel comfortable with your appearance.

Otoplasty Results

Freedom From Your Concerns

The swelling will go down, and you'll start to see the final result of your otoplasty in approximately one to two weeks. Although the full healing process might take up to two to three months, at VIP in The Villages otoplasty patients notice a noticeable improvement by six weeks. Your results are permanent.

Considering Otoplasty?

Ear surgeries that are being performed to correct ears that are too large or project out farther than normal involve making an incision on the backside of the ear to expose the cartilage of the ear. Dr. Soares is then able to reshape the ear cartilage to a more aesthetically pleasing or more natural shape.

Additional Reading

The ear’s cartilage can be reshaped, reduced, and even enlarged, and any scarring from otoplasty is well concealed on the back of the ear in the natural crease where the ear joins the head.
